PT6 is a high quality video decoder IP Core with 3D comb filter and supporting fixed rate sampling.

PT6 supports NTSC, PAL and SECAM standards.

PT6 Features.

Broadcast quality video decoder IP core.

Supports all NTSC and PAL video standards as well as SECAM.

Fixed rate or line-locked sampling.

3D adaptive (frame/field) comb filter.

Low latency (less than 100us).

Very robust sync detection.

Locks to analogue video sources such as VCR.

Supports 960H video.

CVBS or Y/C inputs accepted.

Can share existing memory (e.g. MPEG DDR) or SDRAM memory controller supplied free of charge.

Field proven.

The PT6 IP core is sold with a single use, multiple unit license (i.e. you can use it for one project, but sell as many units of that project as you like). The IP core is supplied as RTL compliant Verilog source code for use in all FPGAs or ASICs. There is a one off payment for the IP core with no further payments required. Design-in support is included for 6 months (it can be extended). On-site support is also available.

An FPGA based evaluation board for the PT6 is available. It accepts CVBS inputs and provides an SDI output.

Read a SingMai article on analogue video decoding from EDN magazine:

Large screen displays, mobile analogue TV reception and video compression have put even greater demands on the analogue video decoder.

For example residual artifacts from a conventional line comb decoder may use up valuable bandwidth when the signal is compressed - up to 20%. The same artifacts become even more visible when processed by large TV display de-interlacers.

PT5 Video decoder comb filter comparison

Compare the images above.

On the left is the output of a conventional line comb decoder and on the right the output of the PT6. You can see the PT6 produces less artifacts and more detail than the line comb decoder.

The two images show conventional line comb decoding, and the PT6 3D comb decoding of a computer generated image. Again, not only are more artifacts created in the line comb decoder, which will create problems if the image is upscaled or deinterlaced, but those artifacts will also use up valuable bandwidth when compressed. The PT6 image not only reduces the artifacts but produces a crisper, more detailed image.

Make the most of your standard definition images and optimise the video for video compression or for further processing such as scaling and de-interlacing.
